Interested in learning more about the tradition of Sweetgrass Baskets from two outstanding local artists? Come join us on Tuesday, May 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the pavilion (next to the Visitors' Center) at the Mount Pleasant Pier / Memorial Waterfront Park under the foot of the Ravenel Bridge. Lynette Youson, a fifth generation basket weaver, and her mother, Marilyn W. Dingle, will discuss the materials used in the baskets and demonstrate how the baskets are made. A large number of baskets and other sweetgrass weavings will be on display. Both Lynette and her mother have been honored by having their baskets on display at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Lynette is a former chairman of the Sweetgrass Festival of Arts Association and teaches basket weaving in local schools.
