Ikebana is Japanese flower arranging. The origin was in floral offerings to Buddha. It was developed in Japan from the idea that it exists only for the person
who enjoys the act of arranging flowers

Ikebana requires living flowers and everything is devoted to creating the beauty of the moment. The “soul” of Ikebana is the philosophy that flowers are
not only beautiful but that they reflect the passing of time and the feelings in “their own hearts.”

It is similar to a painting or poem, but created with flowers. Ikebana allows us to focus on the energy of life and our response to the ever changing
environment.

Paula Forst is a graduate of the Sogetsu School of Flower Arranging, which she studied for one year while living in Sasebo, Japan, on the southern island
of Kyushu. The Sogetsu method aims at making arrangements that will suit any environment, and is now active in training and instructing students in
Japan and abroad.

Paula was a Navy wife for many years and has taught Ikebana in Annapolis, Maryland and has entered Ikebana demonstrations over the years.
