$40 per person, includes a two hour guided tour and rental of all equipment (kayak, paddle, personal flotation device). Payment information to follow.

Come for a guided kayak tour up Shem Creek. The paddle will begin in a saltwater marsh area in historic Shem Creek among the shrimp boats and restaurants there. We then will journey to the Crab Bank Island bird sanctuary, which is home to thousands of nesting shorebirds including the state-threatened Wilsons Plover and Eastern Brown Pelican. We might see dolphins and even manatee. The tour also includes incredible views in the distance of the historic Charleston Harbor, Castle Pinckney, and Ft. Sumter.

This tour does not require any previous kayaking experience and is suitable for IAH members who are moderately active. The employees of Nature Adventures will assist participants in bringing the kayaks down to the water and with getting in and out of them. A short instruction of kayaking basics is provided.

Bring a snack or lunch, camera (optional) and something to drink in a small soft-sided cooler or a plastic bag.  Also bring plenty of sunscreen and wear shoes or sandals that can get wet. Dress will depend on the weather and you will receive suggestions on the day before the tour.
