Please join us Tuesday, October 11th at 3 pm for a ”front porch” Zoom call with Town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Director, Steve Gergick.
Steve will share an overview of the Recreation Department, the roles his team plays in the community, and upcoming capital projects planned for the town. Plus a behind the scenes look at how the department works and his favorite tips on classes and events not to miss!
A graduate of the University of Florida, Steve has a vast degree of experience that has led to his position with the Town of Mt Pleasant. Beginning his career at the Naval Training Center in Orlando, Florida, he quickly grew in title from the Special Events and Entertainment Director to the Athletic Director, providing oversight of all Athletics, Aquatics and Fitness programs. In 1998, Mr. Gergick took became the Recreation Director for Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni, Japan providing leadership for all athletics, fitness, youth, recreation and skills development areas.
Steve, and his family, eventually moved to the Charleston area in 2001 when he was hired as the Recreation Director at the Naval Weapons Station, where he remained for 10 years. During his time at the Naval Weapons Station he earned a Master Degree in Business Administration from Charleston Southern University. In 2012, Steve stepped in the role as the Assistant Recreation Director for the Town of Mount Pleasant, eventually moving into the Director position in 2017.
