Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the monthly video and meeting via Zoom to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today.
The IAH discussion group generally meets the first Monday of the month from 4pm-6pm, 8 months of the year. We meet virtually using Zoom. You will need a computer or tablet with a web camera, a microphone, and speaker. Please join us!
The topic for the December Great Decisions discussion is "American Policy in the Middle East" by Daniel C. Kurtzer:
The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran have exposed fundamental weaknesses of American policy in the Middle East.
While successive American administrations have proved able enough to succeed more often than not in realizing some of the Middle East interests over the past 75 years, the Middle East is so changed and in such turmoil that it is time to reconsider why we are there, what we want to achieve, and what we are prepared to do.
