Aging is a time of transitions. Often we can feel like our brains are still working like we're 35 - “Sure, I can take that 2 mile hike, learn salsa dancing, take a hot air balloon ride, or run a marathon.” But our bodies are weary as if we were 75 and getting older every day - “Can we still drive long distances by ourselves, go to concerts, play pickleball?” So how do we prepare for this new reality? We don't want to give up enjoying what life may bring us, but there are ways to be ready for whatever may come upon us.

We have planned a series of 3 informative sessions:

    1. The fact of life's transitions, which can offer new frontiers for us, things to look forward to and energize us, rather than be down about. How do we discover those? - October 15th
    2. The reality of changes in our overall health, physical and mental issues, and how to deal with them, including how to be our own advocate. How do we learn about them? - November 18th
    3. Being well prepared with plans for our future, including completing essential documents, understanding treatments and medical decisions that will be made and informing family and loved ones about our plans. How do we find these resources? - January 2026, TBD

Our experts for these sessions are:

  • Dr. Barbara Cole: Pediatrician and Pediatric Nephrologist, Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children's Hospital, now retired
  • Dr. Bert Keller: Professor Emeritus of Bioethics and Humanities in the College of Medicine at MUSC and a pastor for 50 years, now retired
  • Dr. Bill Simpson: Doctor of Family Medicine, Professor Emeritus of Family Medicine at MUSC, now retired

Please join for one or all three sessions.

We will be meeting in person, but if you prefer to participate in the discussion through Zoom, please email Elizabeth Sage ([email protected]) so we can accommodate you.
